Hello Universe,

For anyone out there who has stumbled across this page and is wondering… is this group still active? Why yes we are. We do most of our organizing over facebook, and we have had a hard time updating this blog. We realize not everyone has a facebook account for very valid reasons, so we’re trying out using a tumblr, which we find a little more easy to use.

FBC Update: August Book Title & Meeting Date

Successful first meeting! Thanks to everyone for showing up (we were seven) and bringing your thoughts and ideas. I really enjoyed meeting all of you.

Our next meeting is going to be on Monday the 16th of August. 7pm @ Spartacus Books. The title we selected for the next book is Sub Rosa, by Amber Dawn, a loc…al feminist superstar. The bookstore “Little Sisters” (http://littlesisters.ca/Site/Home.html) has many copies ($22.95).

This book sounds awesome! We have decided to alternate our book selections between fiction and non-fiction. If you have any suggestions for future books (fiction or non fiction), please let us know in the “book suggestions” discussion on our facebook page or leave a comment on this blog post. We are trying to plan our books in advance so we can order them through Spartacus to support the store that has generously offered to be our host (thanks again Tash!).

FBC Updates

The FBC’s first book will be “Whipping Girl” by Julia Serano (2007).

Tentative meeting date: Monday, the 5th of July @ 7:00pm. The date and time are still up for negotiation. Feel free to suggest alternatives in the “Meeting Times & Dates” discussion thread in our facebook group.Also, if you have an idea for a meeting space to potentially hold our 50 members and counting (awesome!) please let us know in our “Meeting Spaces” discussion thread in our facebook group (http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=123847404303771).

“Whipping Girl” is available in Chapters and larger bookstores, but please first check out your neighborhood used and independent bookstores, as the FBC is critical of multinational super-corporations. “Whipping Girl” was first published in 2007 so there are bound to be some second hand copies floating around this city.

FBC is accepting suggestions for later books (we hope to average one per month) so please continue to suggest titles in the “Book Suggestions” thread (in our facebook group). If you do not have a facebook account please submit your ideas and suggestions in the comment areas of this blog.
